Lyrics
Across the lake, beneath the moonlight, they hide amongst the pines
And they mingle with the creatures of the night
Long and tall and wide and deep, with the wild things they sleep
And to the dark retreat them from the light
Because we've battered down their doors
With our cold fluorescent swords
Stole it all for God and civic order
Oh yes we've finally cast the shadows out at last
They're dying fast. Their time is past
In the cities 'round the world tonight we huddle well within our light
And tightly cling to things we can't embrace
With mindless games and useless toys we sacrifice our childhood joys
To the hunger which consumes but cannot taste
And in the disappearing dark a silent hoot owl flies
And under brittle starlit skies consciousness can not deny the truth
Far below his watchful eyes the crickets sing their lullabies
Kinda makes me wonder why we're so afraid to step outside our rooms
Because we've battered down their doors
With our cold fluorescent swords
Stole it all for God and civic order
Oh yes we've finally cast the shadows out at last
They're dying fast. The die is cast
Across the lake beneath the moonlight they hide amongst the pines
And they mingle with the creatures of the night
Long and tall and wide and deep, with the wild things they sleep
And to the dark retreat them from the light
